As the membership of the European Union now touches 28 Member State,
the task to ensure that the law is interpreted and applied in a uniform manner
is complex.
The different forms of law, such as Treaty Articles, Regulations
and Directives; have different effects. They leave to the member states
different degrees of discretion relating to their implementation. For a
uniformed law for the Member states, it is essential that the domestic courts
of the members work in partnership with the European Court of Justice. If
necessary, domestic courts can seek the advice of the ECJ on the correct
interpretation of the European Union Law.
